Her throat constricted. She struggled to swallow. The author had interviewed people, people from her past. Each detail exposed, each secret laid bare. The waiting room's air felt thin and oppressive.

She had to get out, to go. She rose abruptly, pushing back the chair with a scrape. The nurse looked up, her expression a mix of concern and curiosity. "Is everything alright, dear?" Amelia forced a smile. "Yes, just… late for an appointment." She fled, her footsteps echoing in the hallway.
